iPad mini 2 to have A7 CPU, fingerprint scanner: Report

Apple launched the iPhone 5S with three new technologies - the 64bit A7 processor, Touch IDfingerprint scanner and M7 motion co-processor. While it is widely expected all three technologies (or better versions of the same) will be used in the next-generation iPad, a recent rumour is that Apple will also introduce them in iPad mini 2. 

Sonny Dickson, the teenager who is credited for numerous Apple leaks, has tweeted that the next-generation iPad mini will come with A7 processor featuring 64bit chipset architecture, M7 chip, Touch ID fingerprint scanner and 1GB RAM. 

This will be a major upgrade for the iPad mini product line, considering the current model has a three year old A5 processor and 512MB RAM. iPad mini's base variant costs $349 at present, making it the cheapest Apple tablet across all screen sizes. 

He also tweeted that the next iPad mini model will come in three colours - black, silver and gold. At present, iPad mini only comes in black and white colour options. Apple has seen a huge demand for thegold coloured iPhone 5S across most markets and even rival Samsunghas followed it by announcing two gold coloured versions of its Galaxy S4. 

While shedding light on possible new features, Dickson has not hinted whether or not iPad mini 2will have Retina display. There have been several contradictory reports regarding the Retina display technology for the next iPad mini and tech community is yet unclear on the resolutionand pixel density that the model will have. 

iPad mini 2 is said to have a 7.9-inch screen, the same size as that of its predecessor, and run iOS 7. 

It is rumoured that iPad mini 2 will follow the same pricing structure that Apple uses for the current range. However, it is now being speculated that it may raise prices if all these new technologies are used in the upcoming model. iPhone 5C, which costs just $100 less than iPhone 5S, does not have the 64bit processor, M7 motion co-processor and fingerprint scanner.

Apple has confirmed that iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C would be up for pre-orders from 13 September. The devices would go on sale from 20 September, initially in the US, Australia, Canada, China, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK.

iPhone 5S will be made available in three colour variants - gold, silver and space grey with prices fixed at $199 (₹12,700) for 16GB, $299 (₹19,000) for 32GB and $399 (₹25,500) for 64GB, with a two-year contract. On the other hand, iPhone 5C will sell in five colour variants - white, yellow, blue, pink and green with prices at $99 (₹6,300) and $199 (₹12,700) with contract. 

Whereas unlocked iPhone 5S variants will be sold for 16GB-$649 (₹41,600), 32GB-$749(₹48,000) and 64GB-$849 (₹54,500).  Indian Apple fans who were excitedly waiting to get their hands on the low-cost iPhone 5C will be unhappy to know that the new plastic iphone will have a hefty price-tag of $549-16GB (₹35,200) and 32GB-$649 (₹41,600) respectively.  Considering the Rupee depreciation, the prices of iPhones may go up further by the time they hit theIndian stores.

Along with iPhones, Apple is also offering separate premium leather covers in multiple colours - beige, black, blue, brown, yellow and red (with soft, colour-matched microfiber lining) for $39 (around ₹2,500).

Despite Apple reaping huge success in iPhone sales in India, the company has no plans to release new smartphones in the subcontinent anytime soon and Is the cheap iphone really cheap and will it boost company's sales ..Perhaps time will prove that..
